Food For Thought

23 O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. 24 O Lord, correct me, but with justice; Not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.

Jeremiah 10:23-24 NKJV

We should know very well that the way of a fool leads to destruction. Yet, that doesn’t stop many people from heeding the voice of fools, does it? We should have better sense than that, right? Jeremiah lived around many fools in his day and he was able to witness firsthand the destruction that came their way. As the destruction drew closer and closer, he prayed for the Lord’s guidance and correction.

You see, Jeremiah understood very well that the way that is correct is simply not in man- it’s not in our nature. No, our nature is to veer off course. We’re like animals in that we can’t walk down a straight path. Like our pets, we have to stop and smell the flowers at every driveway or even try to go up every driveway we see! Many times we wander in complete ignorance towards danger as we pay little to no attention to the cries of turning back from danger.

We need God’s guidance and correction so that we can stay away from the danger. We need God’s guidance and correction so that we aren’t lost to the danger. We must understand that God’s correction in our life is a wonderful blessing. Why is it a wonderful blessing? Because God’s correction keeps us on course. God’s corrections takes us away from danger and to the wonderful treasure of His blessing.
