God’s Promise to Mend the Broken Heart | Ps. 34:17-19
December 13, 2024
17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. 18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
Psalm 34:17-19 NKJV
Some of us may be entering into this season with a broken spirit – either we’re feeling down or maybe some of us are mad at the world. So, in this season, some of us are trying to get into the “Christmas” spirit and feel some kind of joy.
Yet, many of us are trying to do this through earthly devices – what we can buy or who we can be with at this time of year. Now, while one may experience some type of happiness from these devices, eventually that happiness will wear off and one is left having to try to fill it again with those devices.
May I suggest that if you’re searching for joy this season that you turn to the Lord and not to earthly devices. As David said in this psalm, God is always near to you. If you are already of faith, all you have to do is cry out to the Lord and He will hear you. If you’re not of faith, do the same thing – cry out to the Lord in sincere faith and He will hear you too!
To anyone who believes that God wants them to live in pain and suffering, you are terribly mistaken. God desires to deliver all of us from our troubles but when we’re turning to earthly devices, we’re showing that we’re dependent on those things and not Him. God will let us have our devices, but we should be prepared to fill empty if we’re going to depend on them.
Like David, I speak from personal experience when I say that the Lord delivers the righteous from our afflictions and He fills us up with His joy. So, again, if you’re looking to get in the spirit and stay in the spirit, you must look to the Spirit. The Holy Spirit will mend that broken spirit and bring joy to your soul.
