13 Then the Philistines once again made a raid on the valley. 14 Therefore David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.
1 Chronicles 14:13-14 NKJV
There are several times where we as believers have to learn how to slow down. Yes, we must learn to slow down, listen to God, and then follow His instructions. Here’s a case where David was living in complete obedience.
Prior to this, David had asked God if he should go up against the Philistines and the Lord permitted him. David defeated them. However, Israel’s great enemies came back again and David sought the Lord and received God’s instructions. We should always seek God’s instructions with every move we make, especially when it comes to dealing with our troubles. God instructed David to wait and move when He commanded – this led to an assured victory.
Sometimes God is going to tell you to move, you should move immediately. Even more times, God is going to tell you to wait. Why? Because He is putting you in a better position for victory. We only hurt ourselves when we ignore the Lord telling us to hold up and wait. Whereas, if we simply wait and then do as He instructs, our victory is assured.
So, I leave you with this word today: when God tells you to wait, do it! Don’t you get out ahead of God thinking that you know what is best. God is always putting us in a position to win so let us win today by doing exactly what He tells us to do.
