Food For Thought

Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.

Proverbs 3:3-4 NKJV

Do I believe I am favored in the eyes of God? Certainly. The Lord continually makes a way for me when the way seems dire. Does this mean that I have it easy in life? Absolutely not. I have certainly had some hills to climbs and valleys to go through and still go through. There are times where I still worry and stress, but I have learned more and more to lean on the Lord. God has shown me repeatedly that He will deliver me.

If you desire to find favor in the eyes of God, scripture does not hide how to do it from us. Solomon said in order to find favor in the eyes of God, you shouldn’t let truth nor mercy forsake you. To forsake means to abandon. The only way that mercy and truth can forsake you is by you abandoning it. Instead of turning away from the way of truth and mercy, Solomon said to bind them around your neck! He said to with them – keep them – in your heart!

In other words, to find favor in the eyes of God, Solomon says to us to simply live by mercy and truth. How difficult is it to live by mercy and truth? I guess it’s very difficult as many choose to live by being merciless and habitual liars. It is impossible to please God without being faithful to His way (Heb. 11:6). So, find favor in God’s eyes today but putting forth the effort of being faithful to His way!
