How to Truly Understand | Proverbs 1:5-6

Read This Passage: Proverbs 1:1-7

A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles.

Proverbs 1:5-6 NKJV

There are many people that read and hear the word of God and simply cannot understand it no matter how hard they try, and there’s nothing wrong with this. God’s word can be like a nonsensical mess of riddles that contradict themselves. So, rather than trying to understand His word, many throw their hands up in the air and will say that something is wrong with the word of God. Because they are unable to understand it, they will put His word down and move on to something else that is not so difficult to understand.

May I suggest to you that the problem is not God and His word? You and I – people – have the habit of thinking we know everything there is to know when in actuality, we don’t know as much as we think we do. I would suggest that nobody really knows more than the next person as we all have different outlooks, views, insights, and conclusion. After all, why do you think the Lord put us in this world together?

In order for us to truly gain understanding, especially the divine truth, we need each other – we need wise counsel. As the proverb says, to understand a proverb and an enigma – a difficult and wise word – you will need help! You see, this is why the Lord gave to us true believers His Spirit. At the same time, this is why the Lord has surrounded you with wise counsel to help you increase your understanding. So, stop trying to understand wise words on your on and learn to turn to your wise counsel – let them help you out!
