Humble Submission Under God’s Hand
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
We should never think our hands are greater than the hands of the Maker of all things.

Today’s devotional reading: Exodus 7:1-13
Many aren’t satisfied today because they’re refusing to recognize the Lord. When God plagued the land of Egypt, it wasn’t simply to Israel’s benefit. Sure, the children of Israel were in bondage, and eventually Pharaoh let the children of Israel go because of the plagues. Yet, the truth of the matter is that God could have easily moved Israel from Egypt without ever plaguing Egypt. However, the Lord plagued the land of Egypt so that the world would know that He is the one true God.
To this day, the Lord moves in a manner where He makes Himself known to mankind. The sun rises and sets on this world. The rain still falls and nourishes the Earth. Moreover, we live in a place in this universe that scientists confess to being eerily quiet and secure in comparison to the rest of space.
Arrogance was the Pharaoh’s downfall; he didn’t recognize the Lord, His power, or His authority, and refused to heed His voice. In the Book of Proverbs, scripture repeatedly speaks of such a person being a fool, and such a one goes in a way that seems right, but its end is the way of death (Prov. 14:12).
As a great man once preached, our arms are too short to box with the Lord. Trying to fight the Lord is a foolish thing to do and will always end in defeat. However, as Peter said, should one humble themselves under the mighty hand of God, the Lord will exalt them in due time (1 Pet. 5:6).
God loves those who are of a contrite and humble spirit, as they are those with whom the Lord dwells. When you aren’t trying to box God, but rather, trying to walk with the Lord, God will bless and lift higher.
