Food For Thought

33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. 34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.

Matthew 10:33-34 NKJV

Too many of us have a big misconception on the person of Christ. The main misunderstanding of His person is that He was God in the flesh. The birth of Christ, Him being God in the flesh will always be a stumbling block for many. Another point of misunderstanding comes from an image of a peaceful Jesus. Yes, Jesus is the Prince of Peace, today, but He was not that at His first coming.

As Jesus said Himself, “I did not come to bring peace but a sword”. Jesus’ first coming was all about the divine truth. Do you know how people are about the truth? The truth hurts. It is hard for some people to see the truth because they don’t want to see the truth! Jesus kicked over tables, called out sin with great rebuke and for this, people sought to stone Him.

Jesus will one day return with a kingdom of peace. Until that day, Jesus said that we are to be the salt of the earth and lights in the world. Our thoughts on the peaceful Christian is also a misconception. The full armor that we received from God came with a sword. The sword of God’s armor is the word of God. We should live by the word so that we can minister the word. Like Jesus, it’s time for us to stir up the truth with great boldness.
