Let God’s Peace Rule Your Heart

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

The child of God ought not to ever be filled with anxiety and stress.

Today’s devotional reading: Romans 5:1-8

We’re living in a moment where there is so much that can be weighing on us that makes it difficult for us to be steadfast in our faith. There’s potential for war. Prices are up on nearly everything we can think of. Jobs are being lost. Healthcare is a constant worry. On top of these things, there’s the devil’s attacks against and those inner struggles we have in our faith.

Yet, scripture repeatedly encourages us believers to be steadfast in our faith while we have such struggles. How do we do that?

  1. Let go of the negative. Negativity feeds into fear. Fear feeds into the spirits of anxiety and stress. Should fear remain, fear will feed into the demon of doubt. Doubt is where promises and blessings go to die. Why should we let negative thoughts remain when God has given us His only begotten Son?
  2. Remain hopeful. Because God gave the world His only begotten Son, we have great hope. Jesus overcame anything that could keep you from God’s blessings. There is nothing, nor is there anyone, that can separate you from the love of God (Rom. 8:38-39).

In God’s love, He has promised to give you the desires of His heart. So, why stress about anything? Jesus said that He has given us His peace (John 14:27). We have peace in knowing that no matter what, all things work together for good. This is the peace that should dwell in our hearts, always. If you embrace these words, no matter the challenges you will face, you will face them with peace of mind and that is, truly, a great victory.
