56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.

John 6:56-57 NKJV

The day after the miracle of feeding thousands with a few pieces of fish and bread, Jesus said to the people, “I am the bread of life.” The people had come to Jesus because He had fed them food and they desired for Him to feed them again. What the people did not expect was for Jesus to feed their soul rather than their belly! You see, a lot of people live with concerns over their physical life rather than take into consideration the life that truly matters – the spiritual life.

As we know, Jesus came to the world not to do His own will but to do the will of the Father. The will of the Father is that nobody falls short of glory but to be saved from death – the second death which is the spiritual death. With this in mind, Jesus told the people to eat of His flesh and to drink His blood. Did He mean for the people to literally take a bite out of Him and then drink His blood? Absolutely not. All people should understand that Jesus desires for us to consume His every word! As Jesus said to Satan, “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

You see, Jesus said that those who feed on Him, will live because He is the Word of God. Now, scripture tells us that many who followed Him turned away at that point time because the saying was hard for them to understand. You and I should come to understand this word, and not turn from Christ; consume Christ and live by the spiritual bread He will give to you.
