18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

1 John 4:18-19 NKJV

In my last food for thought, I spoke about how one of the places where many of us stumble in our faith is love. Love is supposed to be the foundation of our faith! Think about this: it is God’s love that saves you! You see, God loved the world and gave the world His only begotten Son. Christ gave Himself for us because of His love for us!

You and I have to reach the level of love that Christ has for us. John said that the love has no fear. Even more, perfect love casts out fear. I think about how Christ, before His arrest, prayed about His bitter cup. Christ had a bitter cup to drink from in sacrificing Himself for us. Rather than turning away from the cup, Christ committed Himself to us.

Love is not simply a word. Love is an action. Even more, love is commitment. Love is giving your everything to not only uplift yourself, but to uplift others as well. Let us strengthen our foundation of love to reach a Christ-like level.
