Matt. 23:37-24:2 – Reality Check from Christ
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
Is your heart trained on the greater prize or the lesser prize?

Today’s devotional reading: Matthew 23:37-24:2
Life is about more than the earthly riches that so many are devoted to gathering. There is a goal, or as Paul said, a prize that awaits all of us at the end of this journey. Yet, the prize is different depending on the race you run.
The two prizes: Being gathered by Christ to dwell with the Lord for everlasting life or being gathered by the reapers to be cast into the fire (Matt. 13:36-43).
Many of us take the word of God lightly, but His word speaks of God’s desire not to destroy or to cast away any person. God desires to dwell with all of us for everlasting life, which is why He gave His only begotten Son. God gave His only begotten Son to pull down the veil of sin that covers man’s eyes, tricking him into believing the riches of the world are superior to God’s riches, and that he needs no saving.
As the apostles would walk with Christ, marveling at the works of man, Christ spoke of how man’s works are temporary. Christ spoke of how man’s works would one day come crashing down. Man’s works are temporary because this physical reality is temporary – it will pass away, as God has promised! So, we must let go of a world that has a ticking clock, and train our hearts towards that day that will never end. The choice about the tomorrow that never ends is far greater than the riches of a dying world.
