Not for Your Glory but the Glory of God | John 7:17-18

Read This Passage: John 7:10-24

17 If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. 18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.

John 7:17-18 NKJV

In this passage of scripture there was much contention at the Feast of Tabernacles about Jesus as the religious leaders sought Him, while others argued about whether or not Jesus was “good” or “bad”. There has always been contention about Christ as He is a great stone of stumbling for people to understand. Now, Jesus was at this feast in secret but He eventually began to teach in the temple to which many marveled and could not understand how He knew so much.

Jesus shared the Father’s doctrine as it was according to His Father’s will for the divine truth to be made known to the world. Today, the sincere believer has been commissioned to share the good news and testify of all that God has done for us and for those around us as well – this is God’s will. You and I must understand that the Lord wants the world to know Him and we should labor to do just that. The problem, however, is that many of us aren’t truly laboring for the Lord as our labor is incomplete.

Some labor without love in their heart. Some labor for the praise of those around them. Some labor to gain wealth in the world. No, none of this is why God has commissioned us; we are not to seek our own glory. You and I are to labor out of our love for the Lord, and in that love, we labor to uplift all of those around us. When you and I labor in this manner, we are doing so not for our glory but to glory of God. I encourage you, make sure you’re laboring for the Lord and that you’re doing so to produce the works of righteousness, rather than self glory and wickedness.
