16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer.
2 Timothy 2:16-17 NKJV
We believers must learn to take into serious consideration what is healthy for our soul. I feel like believers are the slowest when it comes to moving on from what hurts the soul. Why is that? Because we are so loving and caring we can feel bad if we ever do move on and that mindset can be taxing.
Paul encouraged Timothy to shun (avoid) profane and idle babblings because they increase ungodliness. Such profane babblings can and do spread like cancer that destroy one’s soul. After we have come to Christ and had our soul renewed through the Spirit, we must take care of it! So, we have to be wary of all things that can be cancerous for our soul.
There’s a lot of negativity that circles us on a daily basis and it’s not healthy for the soul. We must learn how to either turn off the TV and turn the channel to such negativity. When scrolling the internet, we have to learn when to take a break when our internet feed feed us toxicity. Even if its our loved ones, when they stress our soul, we have to know when to avoid what’s unhealthy for the soul.
An unhealthy soul can’t bear good fruit, but a healthy one can produce the righteousness of God.
