Food For Thought

If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

Genesis 4:7 NKJV

These were words that the Lord said to Cain. Cain was angry that the Lord accepted his brother’s offering but did not accept his offering. You see, Abel had brought his best to God in an offering whereas Cain did not offer up the first of his offering. Let’s be clear that there was actually nothing wrong with Cain being upset. In fact, his frustration is why God advised him about what pleases Him.

I share this thought because I don’t want you to ever think there’s something wrong with your feelings. It is natural for us to experience anger, sadness, and happiness. The Lord desires for us to be happy and content in our heart which is why He has given us His directions. What we do with His direction is the key. Are you following God’s instructions when you’re frustrated, upset, sad, or angry?

Cain chose to ignore God’s advice and look at what he ended up doing – he killed his brother. We cannot let our emotions control us, especially those that corrupt the soul. So, let us listen to God and keep His instructions no matter what we are going through. Remember that you are the one that is in control of your thoughts and your actions.
