Seek Validation From God Over the Approval of Man | Gal. 6:3-4
January 28, 2025
3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
Galatians 6:3-4 NKJV
I have a problem with something that I have seen since I was a child. Honestly, as a kid, it was understandable for us to try to be the “cool kid”. We would do silly things like make up stories (tell lies) that would make us look cool to our friends. We would cave into peer pressure and do things we shouldn’t have been doing at all for the sake of being somebody.
At some point, many of us stopped caring about the approval of others and it was one of the smartest choices we made in our adolescence. However, some struggle with letting go of the mindset of caring about what others think. Yes, there are “grown folks” who think themselves something and will go through great lengths to portray themselves as something when they are nothing. The fact of the matter is that we are all the same spiritually – sinners that fall short of the glory of God.
So, rather than striving for the approval of those around us, like we’re still in middle school, we should be setting our mind on the things above (Col. 3:2). As Paul said of himself in Galatians 1:10, “if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.” It is far better to be a bondservant of Christ than a bondservant of the world. For Christ’s reward is everlasting life in His kingdom, but the reward of the world eternal darkness and emptiness.
So, as Paul encouraged Timothy, I say to you today, “be dligent to present yourself approved to God.”
