Food For Thought

8 And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
“Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’

Mark 11:8-9 NKJV

Yesterday kicked off what some call Passion Week and others call Holy Week – celebrating Jesus’ final week. Jesus had the disciples make preparations for His entrance into Jerusalem where they went out and brought to Him both a donkey and a colt, the foal of a donkey (Matt. 21:1-2). From there, it was fulfilled what was prophesied, that the King would come, lowly, sitting on a young donkey.

I make mention of this because when kings rode on a donkey, it was a show of them coming in peace. Now, when kings rode on a horse, the horse was seen as a war animal, which meant a king was ready for war. Yes, while Jesus was being lowly, we should also see that Jesus was riding into Jerusalem as the King of Kings. Jesus was being very pointed and straightforward with this arrival, not hiding from anyone who He truly was.

You see, Jesus had already fought the war in those years He had ministered. The battle had been won and the only thing left for Jesus to do was to become our propitiation. So, yes, Jesus came in peace as He was already laying claim to the victory. We call this the triumphal entry as Jesus’ entering Jerusalem was like how parades are thrown for championship teams! The people were rejoicing at the coming of the King!

Of course, I would tell you that we should have such joy in our hearts everyday! Yet, there is something about Palm Sunday that makes my spirit jump for joy. This week, passion week, also brings even more happiness to my soul as well. So, I hope you will join me this week, being filled with great joy, as we take into consideration Christ becoming our atonement offering.
