Slow and Steady Wins the Race | Eccl. 7:8,10
January 14, 2025
8 The end of a thing is better than its beginning; The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. 10 Do not say, “Why were the former days better than these?” For you do not inquire wisely concerning this.
Ecclesiastes 7:8,10 NKJV
It’s a tale as old as time: “The Tortoise and the Hare” – slow and steady wins the race. That was a tale that was told to us as children but so many seem to forget its moral. So many of us look around at what others are doing, or what they have, and think they’re in a race with them. Why is that? What are you trying to beat them to? Is it to have more than them?
Society has bred a spirit within many that’s simply unhealthy. As Jesus pointed out, life is more than the expensive food we wish to eat and the expensive clothes we wish to wear. You see, life is more than that expensive car you want or that mansion you wish to live in. Sure, there is nothing wrong with having and living comfortably, but resting with those who love you and having peace of mind is a great reward. Of course, an even greater reward is the riches you store up in the kingdom of heaven.
Now, there are good days and bad days as we make our journey to God’s kingdom. Yes, there are those days where we wish that things were better than they are. Yet, this is not the mindset we should carry approaching life and the rest of our journey. You see, there is another old saying to live by: don’t rush what God has in store for you.
Enjoy the journey and learn to take things as they come. Remember that you’re no alone on this journey and that God is with you. Everyday truly is another wonderful blessing from the Lord.
