Stop Listening to the Mouth of Fools | Eccl. 9:17-18

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

17 Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard rather than the shout of a ruler of fools. 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.” – Ecclesiastes 9:17-18 NKJV

17 Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard rather than the shout of a ruler of fools. 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.”

Ecclesiastes 9:17-18 NKJV

I’m sure you’re familiar with the saying “a rotten apple spoils the bunch”, right? That’s essentially what is being summed up in this saying about the words of a fool. The words of a fool is of nothing but lies and deceit; it lacks any wisdom or truth. The child of God should be prudent in their ways as we should seek wise counsel (Prov. 1:5; 14:15).

So, it bothers me greatly when I see one who professes to being a child of God but will heed the words of a fool. I will never understand how one that should be wise but choose to live by the words of a fool! Why do they listen? Because the fool speaks the loudest? As the saying says, “the words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard. “The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked (Prov. 10:11).”

Stop listening to fool! Stop listening to the shout of a ruler of fools! The words of a fool will destroy much good. The fool, you must remember, is headed down a path to his destruction. Why heed the words of one who is headed to a great fall?
