Food For Thought

55 And when you see the south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. 56 Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?

Luke 12:55-56 NKJV

Have you been paying attention lately to all the “unusual phenomenons” that have been happening lately? There have been so many natural events that if they have been seen, they haven’t been seen for a long time. In ancient times, there were some who would look to the skies and to the weather and see God speaking through nature. I remember growing up and how elders would treat thunderstorms like they were sacred – “God is speaking” they would say when it thundered.

We, who live today, look back and joke, mock, and even ridicule those ways. But what if those of ancient times and people like our grandparents were actually on to something? When Jesus spoke about the signs of the times, He spoke about how nations would rise against nations. Jesus said that there would be earthquakes, famines, pestilences, fearful sights, and great signs from heaven (Luke 21:10-11).

In Isaiah 55:10-11, the Lord equated His word to the rain and the snow from heaven – they do not return but water and nourish the earth. The Lord then said that His word would go out in a similar and not return to Him void. I believe that God is speaking today. As my dad would say, there is no such thing as coincidence.

Nothing happening in the world today is strange to God. “Unusual phenomenons” should cause you to stop turning a blind eye to the Lord’s work. Now is the time to start being attentive.
