Food For Thought

10 My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent. 15 My son, do not walk in the way with them,
Keep your foot from their path; 16 For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.

Proverbs 1:10, 15-16 NKJV

It is incredibly important that we understand why scripture constantly warns us about who we surround ourselves with. There is a spiritual battle taking place. Our great adversary lives by the notion: “keep your friends close; keep your enemies closer.” To such a notion, Jesus warned us believers to be on the lookout for the wolves that come in sheep clothes (Matt. 7:15).

Our adversary will try to entice us and draw us further away from the Lord. When a sheep moves further and further away from its master, it leaves itself wide open to its predators. The proverb tells us not to walk with sinners (fools). Their feet, the proverb says, make haste to shed blood (or to destroy). Whether you realize this or not, you will begin to learn the ways of those who you surround yourself with!

Our soul has the ability to absord the ways of those we are constantly around. So, it is best to surround yourself with those who are always going to walk by faith, no matter the situation. From them, you can pick up a healthy mindset that will keep you close to the Lord. Surrounding yourself with the disobedient and the hopeless is a quick way to leading you to destruction.

It is of the utmost importance that you always keep your spiritual health – your soul – in mind. The healthy soul is one that chooses to walk with faith, walk with hope, and walk with God. Don’t be entice away from God.
