Take Care of the Real You | 1 Pet. 3:3-4

Read This Passage: 1 Peter 3:1-12

Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

1 Peter 3:3-4 NKJV

In this scripture, Peter was talking to wives, but honestly, what he says here I believe all people need to hear. Peter’s statement in these two verses are very similar to scripture in which Paul addressed women, again, about not dressing themselves in a manner that pagan worshipers would do to please their gods (1 Tim. 2:8-10). My dad used to tell people that I was used the clothes they did not have for why they did not come to church that God couldn’t care less about the clothes. What did God care about? God cares about the soul.

So, if God cares about the soul, shouldn’t we care about our soul as well? I certainly think so. Yet, a lot of folks spend their days heavily concerned about their outward appearing. And to be clear here, if you’re into fashion and apparel, there is nothing necessarily wrong with that. However, what is wrong is when we don’t take a moment consider our soul. You see, yours soul is who you truly are – not that outward appearance. You see, that outward appearance is one day going to fade away but do you know what will remain? Your soul.

So, Peter tells us not to be so overly concerned about our outward appearance as our outward look is not what pleases the Lord; your outward looks will not get you into heaven. Peter tells us to make sure that our soul looks good! Does your soul look good? Do you even know? It might just be time for you to do a self examination to adorn it in the beauty of holiness.
