The Beauty of Finding Grace in God’s Eyes

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

As the old hymn says, there is beauty in once being lost in the mire of sin but found by God and lifted up.

Today’s devotional reading: Genesis 6:1-8

By the grace of God, one can endure and overcome. Without the grace of God, there is no mercy, nor is there any deliverance from what ails and weighs down the soul. If God had not loved the world, then mankind and the world would have been forever lost in the depths of sin’s clutches.

Man’s way is a way where his every thought and intention goes against the purpose for which God created us. We are sinful creatures with a nature that only focuses on self and how self can flourish. It is that selfish nature that causes one to build himself up to be more righteous than another. It is in that self-righteousness that one man chooses to oppress and suppress another whom they deem to be weak.

God created mankind to flourish and to prosper together through grace. We are supposed to uplift each other, not crush one another in covetousness and greed. God could have destroyed mankind because of its self-righteous wickedness, yet God didn’t destroy the world. When the Lord saw that the intent of mankind was always wicked, Noah found grace in the eyes of God, and the world was shown mercy.

Again, God could have condemned and destroyed the world after His chosen people chose to disregard their covenant and His law. Yet, rather than destruction, God remembered His covenant with Noah and gave the world His only begotten Son. Once again, the Lord showed mankind mercy.

When you choose Christ today, you’re choosing to find favor in the eyes of God, and because of that choice, when sin should crush you, you will stand tall. You will stand tall over all that stands against you because you have found grace in the eyes of God.
