Food For Thought

20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

Romans 12:20 NKJV

Surely you have heard the phrase, “kill ’em with kindness”, right? No matter how many times this is encouraged, most folks choose not to take this route. Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye … I tell you not to resist an evil person.” In other words, don’t answer your enemy’s attack by trying to fight back against them in the same manner!

Of course, this is a thought that goes against every fiber in our body, doesn’t it? Some of us was raised that when someone hits us, we better swing back! While that may bruise the enemy, momentarily, it will certainly not defeat an enemy. Some of us may take even more extreme measures, stooping lower and lower to places not child of God should be.

Something we have to understand about our true enemy is that the devil wants us to break character. Again, we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but against an enemy we cannot see. The best way to defeat our enemy, the devil, is to keep moving forward in faith. Job has shown us that our continued faith actually breaks the devil. So, as Jesus said, continued to move in grace and you will put your enemy to shame! Your adversary will eventually turn and go on his merry little way.
