The Example Is Set: Is Your Heart Ready to Align with It? | 1 Pet. 2:21-23
April 21, 2025
21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: 22 “Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”; 23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;
1 Peter 2:21-23 NKJV
In the life of the child of God, there is only one example you should primarily set out to follow – Jesus Christ. You see, Christ laid the foundation for us to to live and build off of. In the example that Christ set, Peter tells us that He suffered for us, to leave the example of how we face our own journey. The life of every believer is filled with tests – trials and tribulations – even suffering.
If you are one who is supposedly of faith, but you think it is a mistake for you to be tested on this journey, you are the one who’s mistaken. Jesus told us very plainly that we are going to have tribulation in the world (John 16:33). Those tests may come upon you in physical afflictions. Those tests may come upon you in lacking what others may have. Those tests may come upon you in temptations. There are several other ways that you and I are going to be tested on this journey, don’t be surprised!
What’s important is how we respond in the day of testing. Right now, many of us are being tested in how we will respond to the actions of the wicked and evil. You better believe the wicked and evil are trying to draw a response out of you that they will believe permits them to move against you. In the day of His suffering, Peter pointed out that Jesus did not revile nor did He threaten. Jesus moved in peace as He committed Himself to the Father.
This is the example we ought to not only live by today but ought to live by tomorrow. Jesus is the one example we ought to always set out to follow. No matter the test, we must keep our wits and we must keep our peace. With peace of mind, there is no test that we cannot pass.
