The Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven | Matthew 18:3-4

Read This Passage: Matthew 18:1-5

and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:3-4 NKJV

I can’t tell you which of the disciples came to Jesus with this question, but it is an interesting question to be asking Jesus; if I had to guess, I would say it was probably Peter that asked this question. What makes this question so intriguing is that one who is of a spiritual mindset wouldn’t bother with asking this question. The thought of greatness – being the greatest in heaven – is something that someone filled with pride and ego would be thinking about.

To break this train of thought, Jesus said that you must be converted – no longer living with a worldly mindset but with a spiritual mindset. Jesus then said that one must become as little children; little children don’t know everything and are filled with a million questions. So, we must have a spiritual mindset and have humility just to enter into the kingdom of heaven and whoever enters into the kingdom will be the greatest. There will be no hierarchy among us when we enter into the kingdom of heaven – we shall all be equal to one another.

The world spins to a worldly doctrine that has spun out class systems which has lead to wickedness like covetousness, greed, oppression and suppression. You and I have to unlearn the messiness of this world if we desire to rise above this world. The world wants you to be stuck on a doctrine that leads to hatred whereas the Lord wants an uplifting doctrine to fill your soul. I encourage you today, turn from the world’s idea of greatness for God’s wisdom for what will make you great; when you do this, you will enjoy life a great deal more.
