The Light Has Dawned | Matthew 4:16

Read This Passage: Matthew 4:12-17

16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.”

Matthew 4:16 NKJV

During the time between the Old and New Testaments, the Lord “went silent” for 400 years as the world fell into darkness. The darkness is not a reference to literal darkness where there was no light radiating from the sun and the stars at night. Darkness speaks to the world falling into sin as mankind lived in a manner of continuing to forsake what God desired from mankind.

The Lord desired, and still desires for mankind to be holy and righteous, but in our nature, we are everything but holy and righteous. Now, there were those that lived in that day that had a great desire for the Lord. So, when Jesus began His ministry in Galilee, Jesus proclaimed that those who sat in darkness (in sin) had seen a great light. Jesus proclaimed that those who sat in the region and shadow of death (living in sin that would approach the second death), “Light has dawned.”

Jesus’ birth was certainly a bringing of the light to the world. However, when Jesus’ ministry began, the true Light began to be revealed to the world. The Light that had dawned revealed the truth to man. What is that truth: one does not have to live in sin to the second death but can be saved by Christ and delivered unto salvation. This is the Light that I preach of and proclaim to the world for you to know: turn from the way of sin, have faith in the only begotten Son, and live.
