The One Advocate You Need
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
You ought not ever think that you can stand before the Lord alone, and withstand His judgment as if you are completely perfect.

Today’s devotional reading: 1 John 2:1-2
Every knee will bow before the Lord, and every thought and deed will be judged. There is no escaping God’s judgment; there is a way of escaping God’s condemnation. To escape God’s condemnation, you will need a really good advocate, as you will not want to stand before God to defend yourself.
You have likely heard that all good people go to heaven, while all evil people go to eternal condemnation. While there is truth to this statement, this statement misses one key point entirely, which will lead to much gnashing of the teeth, as scripture states.
In Romans 8:1-8, Paul spoke of how there is a righteous requirement of the law that we cannot met nor fulfill without the help of Christ. Some believe that all they need to do to enter heaven is be a “good person” with a bunch of “good deeds”. The problem with this mindset is that it is a mindset that is absent of faith in the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ.
Your good deeds won’t get you into the kingdom because God is still going to judge the secrets of a person, and sadly, all of us have our sinful secrets. If you stand before the Lord without Christ as your advocate, your sinful secrets will sit before the Lord and God will be faithful to His judgment of all sin. Do not be mistaken, having Christ as your advocate is necessary if you truly desire to be found righteous in the eyes of God.
The beauty of it is this: Christ wants to be your advocate, and He will advocate for you for free if you choose to come to Him.
