Food For Thought

13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.

2 Samuel 7:13-14 NKJV

David had the grand desire to build a house for God.  You know, there are many of us, just like David, who want to do these big idea things for the Lord.  David, wanting to build a house for God, said a great deal about the gratefulness that he had in heart for the Lord.  Personally, I have the grand desire to preach God’s word to as many people as I possibly can because of all that God has done for me. I am grateful!

Now, what’s interesting about our big ideas is that God has never asked for anything in return from us, aside from us being thankful.  One may say, well, God wants us to believe in Him.  No, God hopes that we will believe in Him – God does what He does because He is faithful to mankind.  If you don’t believe in Him, it’s not like you are ruining God’s day.

With that being said, God certainly has big ideas for us, whether or not we believe in and appreciate Him.  God made an unbreakable promise to David and to mankind.  Jesus was born to build – to establish – a house for God’s name.  As Jesus said, He is the way, the truth, and the life.  The everlasting kingdom was established when Jesus became iniquity and was chastened with the rod of men (1 Pet. 3:18).

Every prophecy and promise that the Lord made about His only begotten Son was fulfilled.  Understand, when we celebrate the birth of Christ, we are also celebrating the fact that God fulfilled every last one of His promises about His Son.
