Food For Thought

26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

John 19:26, 30 NKJV

Jesus had to die. This was a thought that the Jesus closest followers could not understand no matter how often He said it. The Son of God had to give His life. Do you understand why He had to give His life? Jesus had to give His life to fulfill the will of God. The will of God is for both you and I, all who believe in true faith, to have everlasting life.

Had Jesus tried to evade the reason why He was given to the world, we would all be lost in sin. We would all be lost to the sinner’s death. The sinner’s death is not just a physical death but it is eternal condemnation. God has no desire for anyone to die the second death! So, He gave His everything to save us filthy souls from the condemnation we so rightfully deserve.

The thief on the cross said it best, had we died the sinner’s death it would be deserved. Thankfully, God loves us because He wants to love us. Thankfully Jesus didn’t evade His purpose! Thankfully, Jesus gave His life so that someone like me can have life everlasting in God’s kingdom when I don’t deserve it! We call it Good Friday because this is a day to begin rejoicing in the victory we have over sin!
