John 13:3-9 – To Have Part With Christ
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
Don’t let your pride and ego keep you out of fellowship and the kingdom.

Today’s devotional reading: John 13:3-9
Without humility, how can you follow Christ? Without humility, how can you inherit the kingdom of heaven? Many have missed out on Christ and the kingdom because they couldn’t, or can’t, part with their pride and ego.
What is it that we have done that would lead one to be so prideful as to think that they don’t need God? Gaining earthly riches only means something to those who put stock in those riches. Do you think that the Creator of all things puts any stock in silver and gold? God is far more concerned about the soul of mankind than silver and gold.
Those who recognize the vanity in earthly riches will move on from what was a child’s dream about becoming rich. Those who do put stock in earthly riches lose their soul to those earthly riches only to live a life that, as Solomon said, is vanity (Eccl. 1:1-4). Truly, it is a tragic thing for one to live their lives given to earthly riches only to pass on to a place where earthly riches truly are meaningless.
Therefore, man has nothing to be so prideful about to think that he doesn’t need the Lord. No, we need God because our righteousness is a filthy mess. We need God so that He can wash away that which sullies our spirit. We need God so that we can overcome our shortcomings and the shortcomings of man. The question that one must answer today is this: Will you humble yourself so that you can recognize your need to have part with Christ, our Savior?
