The Ungrateful Heart Is a Danger

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

We must guard ourselves from developing a spirit of ungratefulness.

Today’s daily devotion: Psalm 78:18-31

God’s giving is more than enough for us, or at least it should be. Sadly, there are those who aren’t pleased with God’s giving. Rather than being grateful, they complain about what God has provided. The child of God must be wary of being ungrateful for what God provides.

Ungratefulness can lead one to become greedy and selfish, uncaring of others. Ungratefulness can lead one to covet what another has. Coveting what another has can cause one to go blind to what they have. Ungratefulness can cause one to become envious of what others have. Envyness can lead one to move with the wicked intent that Cain did when he murdered his brother Abel (Gen. 4:3-9).

Love is the way of the Lord, and it should be the Christian way. In the Christian’s heart, love should begin with a loving God. God has given us life, and we should love Him for that. God tends to our every need, He cares for us, and makes a way for us – we should love Him for that. We should love God’s word. We should love His only begotten Son, for without Him, we wouldn’t be free from the weight of sin.

Be sure to recognize the Lord in your life and give Him thanks for all He has done for you and those around you. Guard your heart from ever being ungrateful for God’s giving.
