We are Called to Move

Reverend Leo H. McCrary II

Do not confuse waiting in faith for literally sitting down and doing nothing.

Today’s devotional reading: Genesis 11:27-12:9

Faith does not sit still. Faith is living, breathing, moving, and active. When God called out to Abraham, His first words to him were a command that involved him literally getting up and moving.

In His commission to those who choose to follow Him, Christ tasked, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you.” We must pay attention to the fact this was a call to action.

Moreover, this wasn’t simply a call for one to wag their fingers or to even preach, or dictate, the Lord’s way onto others. God’s children are to move by example; we are to be living testimonies of what is holy and righteous. How can we live by example if we don’t put forth the effort of living in obedience to the word of God?

Today, if you aren’t doing so already, put forth the effort of obedience and living by example. One who lives in obedience obeys the command of loving the Lord wholeheartedly and loving their neighbor. One who lives in obedience obeys the command to come before the Lord, acknowledging and confessing one’s transgressions. The Lord hasn’t called for you to be perfect, as that would make vain Him giving His only begotten Son. Yet, if all you do is live in obedience, putting forth the effort of faith, God will exalt you one day, lifting you to the eternal inheritance.
