Wealth by Mastering the Art of Contentment | 1 Tim. 6:6, 9
December 3, 2024
6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain … 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1 Timothy 6:6, 9 NKJV
Those of us who may think that God wants for us to be miserable, should really examine such thoughts. Why would God want us to be miserable and to suffer? God created a very beautiful world which He placed us in. Day by day God watches over us, tends to us, and He supplies our every need. As it’s said in Lamentations 3:22-23, God’s compassions are new every morning — God is going to bless you!
Yet, many of us will complain about His blessings. We’ll say that God either doesn’t give enough or God moves too slowly. Our mindset needs to change when it comes to God’s blessings. Firstly, know that every gift God gives is sufficient and more than enough. Next, let’s learn to set aside our wants and most certainly our greed as well.
We have to stop coveting! Paul warns that the desire to be rich takes down a path that leads us to destruction. Why does the desire to be rich lead us to destruction? Because it blinds us to all that is before. Covetousness blinds us to the riches that God has already blessed us with. Covetousness blinds us even from the traps and the foolish lusts that are a great danger to us.
We must master the art of contentment because contentment is the greatest of gains. There’s no anxiety, no worry, and no misgivings of God’s blessings. Knowing that you are blessed and that God will continually bless you is great peace. What can possibly beat the peace of knowing that God is always taking care of you?
