Food For Thought

1good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold. By humility and the fear of the Lord Are riches and honor and life.

Proverbs 22:1, 4 NKJV

Whether you realize it or not, the choices you make in your life says a great deal about your character.  The proverb says that a “good name” is better than great riches.  Don’t so many of us need to hear this!  So many of us put great riches over everything, and that includes our name – who we are.

Think about that for a moment.  Are you simply the riches that you chase after in this world? Think about this:  what do the temporary riches of this world say about your character?  Are you that power that you crave to have in this world?  This world is a wicked world that is temporary – it will pass away.

We have to be more than what Solomon, a man of great wealth and power, called vain (meaningless).  Solomon said one should choose the favor of God over silver and gold.  When you choose God’s favor, you’re choosing divine love and to go in its way over riches that can never love you.  In choosing God’s love, His favor, you’re choosing to walk with a character of humility and grace that will always rise above the bitterness and hatred of this world.

So again, I say, the choice you make in life says a lot about your name – your character – who you are.  Not simply your character in this world, but your character when you stand before the Lord.  What will the Lord see when you stand before Him?
