¹³ Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.

John 15:13-14 NKJV

Do you understand how special it is for Christ to consider you a friend of His? If you don’t understand how truly wonderful it is for Christ to be your friend, think about what He has said. Jesus laid down His life for His friends. Think about what that means— Jesus gave everything for His friends. How many friends do you have that will give you their everything?

I tell you what, you have found a truly great friend if they give you their all! In fact, Jesus encourages us to keep His word and His word is for us to love the Lord and those around us. In giving us His everything, Jesus gave to us the truth so that we don’t have to be a slave to sin. In giving us His everything, Jesus opened up the path for us to glory! Yes, Jesus gave us everything by giving us life— everlasting life.

Honestly, think about it, what is greater than the love of God? If you have a friend as great as this, wouldn’t you want to live for them? I would hope you answer yes to that question. So, since Jesus has offered us His friendship, I’d say we should do our best to keep His word as a friend should do.
