When God Makes a Promise | Hebrews 6:13-15

Read This Passage: Hebrews 6:9-19

13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

Hebrews 6:13-15 NKJV

God does not make promises that He is not able to keep. Many of us get tired of waiting on a promise that the Lord has made with us, and we’ll say that God has failed to keep His promise. Is this true? Or is this thought one that is completely misunderstood and unjustified about the Lord?

Scripture shows us repeatedly that the Lord is a keeper of what He promises. The writer of Hebrews touches on this the thought that if God was to break His promise, He wouldn’t necessarily just be breaking a promise with you. No, the Lord swears by Himself, so if He was to break a promise with you, He would be breaking a promise with Himself as well! It is impossible for God to break what He promises because He is faithful; God is faithful to you and He is faithful to Himself. All that the Lord has asked from us in return is for us to trust in what He has promised and to faithfully wait on what He has promised.

As you have heard time and time again, faith requires patience but waiting is not easy. In fact, there can actually be much struggle that you will encounter while you’re waiting for the Lord to deliver what He has promised, just ask Abraham. That being said, remain faithful and don’t give into temptation! Giving into temptation only leads to failure, but you and I must remain faithful and obedient. So, I encourage you today, when it comes to what God has promised, be faithful and wait because He is faithful to keep His promise.
