When You Have Lost Joy | Lamentations 5:15-16, 21

Read This Passage: Lamentations 5

15 The joy of our heart has ceased; Our dance has turned into mourning. 16 The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned! 21 Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored;
Renew our days as of old

Lamentations 5:15-16, 21 NKJV

Jeremiah was full of lament after the fall of Jerusalem and we see his lament throughout the book of Lamentations. After the fall of Jerusalem, some Jews lived in exile in Babylon while others, like Jeremiah, ended up living in Egypt. The Jews, including Jeremiah, were suffering because they remembered the days of old. You see, they had great joy when they weren’t living in a foreign land under the thumb of another; many lost their joy.

Life is not always sunshine and rainbows, is it? There are times when our afflictions and tribulations are great. In those times, you may even feel like your soul has been shattered and broken into pieces. I would say to you that in those days, your soul is in need of a revival. So, how do you go about reviving your soul? Well, take a look at Jeremiah’s prayer.

In his supplication, Jeremiah acknowledges that his joy had ceased. Jeremiah acknowledges the sin of his people. Then Jeremiah asked for God to turn them back to Him and restore their soul as days of old. When your soul is in need of reviving, go to God and acknowledge the condition of your soul to Him. You see, the Lord does not want you to toil in despair. God will restore your soul, not to the days of old but to even better days. God will always push you forward, not backwards – He will lift your soul up to better.
