Who Are We to Command God? | Job 35:10-12
July 30, 2024
10 But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs in the night, 11 Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, And makes us wiser than the birds of heaven?’ 12 There they cry out, but He does not answer, Because of the pride of evil men.
Job 35:10-12 NKJV
Job was not nearly the patient man that he is often portrayed to be. Now, this is not to say that he wasn’t a man of faith because he was. However, scripture does show us that Job did accuse God for his suffering. For example, in Job 6:4, Job accused God of having poisoned him with poisonous arrows. It took for the Lord to speak directly to Job for him to apologize and ask forgiveness (Job 42:1-6).
Before that, a young man named Elihu spoke the wise words we see in our scripture for today. Had Job continued in the way he was going, he would’ve found himself in some serious trouble. We also have a nasty habit of accusing, or blaming God, for when things don’t go our way. Then, when God blesses us, many of us won’t even acknowledge that our blessings came from Him.
There is a lot of pride in our hearts that we have to let go! Some folks will cry out in distress with the expectation that God better move because we’ve said so. Who are we to think that we can dictate and command God to move just because we say so? That is pride! The only thing your pride will do is cause God to turn His ears from you.
So, as Elihu encouraged Job, I’ll encourage you to do: humble yourself and then watch how the Lord will move for you.
