Food For Thought

11 “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today … 18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

Deuteronomy 8:11, 18 NKJV

“First giving honor to God, who is the head of my life” – I can’t tell you how many times I heard that phrase in the church growing up.  To me, it was said so often that it just seemed like church rhetoric when someone stood up to speak.  In fact, I began to wonder if people really meant what they were saying.  You see, it means something to say that God is the head of your life!

To say that God is the head of your life is to say that you are putting Him over everything – that even includes yourself.  The fact of the matter is that many of us struggle with putting others before ourselves nonetheless putting God before us.  For example, Moses had to remind the children of Israel not to forget God.  God had brought them out of the bondage of Egypt and Moses knew that the children of Israel had the potential to get lax and forget God.

Saying that God is the head of your life requires you to remember Him, what He has done for you.  Saying that God is the head of your life requires you to remember His way and to surrender to it and His will!  If you have laid claim to the Lord and said that you are His child, then you must strive to honor Him at all times.  Can you say that you really are doing that in both word and deed?

We certainly should be doing our very best to honor the Lord because He certainly honors us.  If you ask God, He will tell you that we all come first to Him. For that very reason, I will do my best to make and keep God as the head of my life.
