Why God Has Chosen You
Reverend Leo H. McCrary II
As children of the Lord, we must not make the same mistake that the children of Israel made when it comes to being God’s chosen.

Today’s devotional reading: Deuteronomy 7:1-11
Did God choose you because you are more special than anyone else? The children of Israel fell in love with the idea that they were ‘God’s chosen people’ because they were more unique than any other people in the world. Yet, in Deuteronomy 7, the Lord pointed out that He chose them because they were the least (number-wise) of all people. God chose Israel because He loved them and was being faithful to the promise He made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
God hasn’t chosen you or any of us because we are greater than anyone. I want you to keep in mind what Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:16: “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” To be clear, God loves everyone and has called for everyone to receive His only begotten Son. Moreover, God has chosen you to be faithful to what He swore in the garden when He promised the defeat of Satan.
Let us not make the same mistake that the children of Israel made when they believed their being chosen gave them special privileges. When Christ came, He shared the same message with them that has now been shared with the Gentiles. Christ called on all people to repent and to believe in Him, but the Jews, because their father was Abraham, didn’t believe they needed repentance or saving (John 8:31-40).
God has called on all people to be saved, which means that every single one of us has an opportunity to be favored in God’s eyes. Let us remain humble, having chosen God for He chose and loved us first. Having found favor because we have chosen Him, let us also move graciously towards our brothers and sisters in Christ, but also towards our neighbors as well.
