Food For Thought

24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. 25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.

Proverbs 11:24-25 NKJV

Scripture is filled with warning after warning about covetousness, lust, and greed. Have you any idea why that is? Why does God warn us against being greedy. This proverb certainly runs against the wisdom that is of the world. You see, the world teaches us that you can never have enough. The world encourages us, from childhood, get more and more money – be rich!

There is this thought that with the more you have, the better off you will and the happier you will be. Solomon, a man of great wealth, would like to have a word with those that think that way. God created us to be fruitful and multiply – to flourish. The world tells you to gather and gather so that you can flourish. However, God makes it clear that the only way we, mankind, can flourish is if we lift each other up.

You see, those who are generous, rather than greedy, or those that can find what no greedy person can find. The generous heart is a heart that finds happiness and peace. The generous heart is a heart that is blessed by God while the greedy heart is filled with stress over temporary riches. Don’t block yourself from experience great peace and happiness because you’re too hung up on gathering in riches.
