Food For Thought

10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:10-11 NKJV

There is a place where many believers must step up in their walk of faith.  Just because you believe and have gained salvation which cannot be lost, doesn’t mean that’s the end.  I feel like too often we forget the fact that we were elected (chosen) by God.  Yes, you were chosen by God when God made mankind in His image and in His likeness.  We also forget that God chose us even more through the giving of His only begotten Son to save us.

Yes, we were saved unto everlasting life but that’s not the end of it.  As His children, the Lord calls on us to serve His through the service of serving those around us.  As His children, we ought not neglect our calling and election!  No, we should remember our call and election on a daily basis.  We have a life of meaning to live and we should be working at living that life of meaning which leads to everlasting life.

Prior to these two verses, Peter had written about one assuring their faith by diligently growing in virtue, knowledge, self-control, and brotherly kindness.  I want you to understand today that like most things in life, faith requires you to put forth work— an effort.  No, you cannot lose salvation, but trust me when I tell you that God is not a fan of lazy children.  So, let’s live a life of meaning by remember that God loves us, He’s chosen us, and He has given us this new life to life.
