You Can’t Run From God | Jon. 2:7-9

Read This Passage: Jonah 2

“When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; And my prayer went up to You, into Your holy temple. “Those who regard worthless idols forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.”

Jonah 2:7-9 NKJV

This is the prayer of a man that did his best to run away from God and an assignment that the Lord had given to him. Jonah ran from God because he despised the people that the Lord called for him to go to (Jon. 4:1-3). In choosing to disregard the Lord, Jonah move disobediently – he sinned.

Jonah was on a boat in the middle of nowhere when a terrible storm came along the way. After being awaken out of his sleep, Jonah realized the storm was meant for him, as God had “found him”. Jonah had himself thrown from the boat and ended up in the belly of a great fish (Jon. 1:17) – this certainly sounds like the work of God. Jonah believed he could run from God but that is a tragic mistake to make.

There are times in your life where you may mess up and try to run from God but that is impossible. When the Holy Spirit dwells in you, you can try to ignore God all you want but He is with you. When you try to run from God, the only thing you will end up doing is hurt yourself. Jonah was put in a position to where he had to remember the Lord, and thankfully for him, God is a merciful and forgiving God – salvation is of Him. So, whatever you may have done, if you’re trying to run from God today, I encourage you to stop running and turn your eyes back to God; He is with you, He is certainly merciful, salvation is truly of Him.
