Food For Thought

13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.

Psalm 19:13 NKJV

Psalm 19 is another psalm of praise from David. In this psalm, David praises the law of the Lord for being perfect and converting the soul (Ps. 19:7). Though the soul was created perfect, we corrupt and pollute in our nature of transgression. That said, David praised God’s judgment in that His judgment is true and righteous (Ps. 19:9).

Because of God’s righteous judgment, David sought to live in a manner to please the Lord. He prayed that the Lord keep him away from presumptuous sin – a sin of great transgression. We often believe that we are stepping out on faith, but many time we are moving by the presumption of our own heart. You have to be wary of moving by your own presumption! As Proverbs 14:12 states, “there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

Moving by presumption is dangerous because presumptions are made without evidence, facts, or assurances. So, rather than moving irrationally, David called on the Lord to keep him from moving presumptiously! This is a prayer that all of us need. We need a steady heart! We need a heart that will remain focused on what God has set for us and not what we have set for ourselves. Let us learn to move by faith by calling on the Lord to set our course and then executing as He instructs.
