Food For Thought

18 The simple inherit folly, But the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

Proverbs 14:18 NKJV

The fact of the matter is that all of us were born in a sinful world, and at one point in time, all of us were simple.  All of us at one point in time were ignorant of the way of the Lord and moved in that ignorance.  As it is said in Proverbs 14:15, The simple believe every word.   How does one become wise and turn from the way of the simple? Answer: they begin to become prudent.

In Proverbs 22:6, the proverb states that one should train up a child in the way he should go so that when he is old he won’t depart from it.  Children can be prudent in their curiosity and asking questions.  Children like to gain understanding.  Unfortunately, not all children are raised in the way of wisdom.  That being said, the Lord desires to raise us up to be like Him.  We must not be afraid to ask questions about the reality of this world and man’s propensity to sin.

The prudent are crowned with knowledge – the knowledge of fearing the Lord (Prov. 1:7).  Why? Because the prudent sought that knowledge and the Lord trained them up through wise counsel.  Guess what we should do with that knowledge?  Move in it.

While the simple continue to move in the way of foolishness today, and are actually proud to do so, we must not move as they do.  You have been trained up by the Lord to go in the way to go, let us not depart from it!  Be faithful to how the Lord raised you, and again, you will be blessed.
