Food For Thought

46 And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. 48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.

Luke 1:46-48 NKJV

After affirmation of Gabriel telling her she would conceive and give birth to the Son of God, Mary sang praises to the Lord.  In her praise, once again, we see the praise and rejoice that we should have for the birth of Christ.

Before the birth of Christ, who was Mary?  Nobody.  At least, that’s how the world likely saw Mary.  The world loves to celebrate fame and celebrity – the rich and the great.  Mary was none of those things.   Mary had nothing – she was poor and of the lower class.  If Mary was known by anybody, it would have only been those in her community.

Many of us share this in common with Mary, don’t we?  We aren’t famous and we don’t have wide celebrity.  We aren’t rich and we aren’t great, according to the world and our society.  Yet, just like Mary, there is one that does see us, knows us, values us, and loves us greatly.  Gabriel told Mary that she was blessed and highly favored in the eyes of God (Luke 1:28).  How many of us know today that we are also blessed and highly favored in the eyes of God?

Like Mary, our soul should be rejoicing today because God has regarded our lowly state.  God regards the meek (lowly) and humble.  God regards the poor as well.  Jesus preached that the meek are blessed and will inherit the earth.  Jesus preached that the poor in spirit are blessed for theirs is the kingdom of God and its riches!

You are greatly blessed because God’s eyes watch us with tender care!  Yes, we should rejoice because chose us when He gave the world His only begotten Son.  Again, this is what we should be celebrating this Christmas.
