Today’s devotional reading: Revelation 3:14-19

When someone loves you, why would you turn from them? God has loved mankind from the moment he laid down the foundation of this creation. Paul said that all things were made by God and for Him (Col. 1:16). When the Lord made mankind in His image, according to His likeness, He did so for the purpose of mankind dwelling with Him.

God created a wonderful world for us to dwell in peace, harmony, and fellowship with Him, but how did man return God’s love? Man chose to disobey in the garden. Man’s every intention was continually evil, refusing to walk in God’s likeness (Gen. 6:5). Man raised himself above others, including God, making himself king and emperors who gathered all the Earth’s treasure. That same mindset now dwells in the hearts of many, as they continue the effort to live beyond their needs, grinding and hustling for silver and gold.

The question that Christ asked long ago is still relevant today: For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

God’s desire is that we will turn away from treasure that will perish for treasure that will never perish. Christ encourages us to buy from Him, because He is the one who holds the eternal treasures of His kingdom. The only way for one to gain the eternal treasure is by going to the Lord, and the only way that one can go to the Lord is by following Christ (John 14:6).

Why turn away from the one who knew and loved you before you were even in the thoughts of your parents? Love the one who loves you and will never hurt, harm, or abuse you. Love the one who will lift you up and not burden you. I implore you to love the one who is faithful to keep what He has promised to you.
