Today’s devotional reading: John 6:53-58

Have you received the word of God? God’s Word came to the world, was made flesh, and dwelt in it. John said that in the Word was life, and the life was the light of men; it shone in the darkness, and the darkness couldn’t comprehend it (John 1:1-5, 14). Today, the written word of God is widely available, and more importantly, it’s free!

Again, I ask, have you received the word of God? Do you believe that you need the word of God? Whether you believe it or not, the Lord tells us that we need His word so that we may live. To the Devil, Jesus said that we cannot live by food alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matt. 4:4).

To a multitude, Jesus said that they must consume the word of God. Upon consuming the word of God, Jesus told the multitude that they would live. When Jesus spoke of life by the word of God, He wasn’t simply talking about physical life. Yes, physical life is truly important, and it ought to be cherished. Yet, the life that we live in this world is only for a moment. We are pilgrims in this world, as the world beyond this world awaits us.

Jesus’ desire is for one to have life in the world to come. The only way that one can have life forever in the world to come is by having lived by the word of God today. The word of God must dwell in one’s heart, as it is key to our entry into the prepared place! The word of God will transform your spirit and make you fit for the kingdom. Without the word, one will not be fit to inherit the kingdom of the Lord.

14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ – Matthew 20:14-15 NKJV
