Today’s devotional reading: Psalm 103:1-14

Where would we be without the mercy of God? Not too many of us stop to thank the Lord for His mercy and grace, but that should be common practice in the hearts of those who are of sincere faith. In many of his psalms, David would sing thanksgiving to God because he recognized the love God had shown him through His mercies.

Only a self-righteous person would think that they don’t need to thank God for permitting them to see another day. Only a self-righteous person would think that they don’t need to thank God for permitting them to experience moments of happiness. Who are we to think that we have seen this day by our own strength and power? Who are we to think that those moments of happiness have come our way by our own will and might?

Day by day, we can see how fortunate we are to have any moments of happiness. This world is a corrupt world that is filled with violent, angry men who desire to be gods when they are just flesh and blood. This world is corrupt, filled with covetous and greedy people who have thrown away their souls for the riches of this world. Without God’s grace, mankind would have destroyed itself a long time ago! To this day, man is still trying its best to destroy itself, and for what reason? Temporary riches.

When we go to the Lord in prayer, we often have our hands held out asking for the Lord to “give me”. However, when you go to the Lord, it is also wonderful to say thank you. God doesn’t need your thanks, but your thanksgiving stands as recognition of a humble heart that recognizes its need for God’s mercy and providence. God has lifted all of us up from the self-destruction of our sins so that we may dwell with Him for everlasting life, and again, you certainly have reason to thank the Lord for His mercy and grace.

Where would we be without His grace and mercy?
